After posting my Google Doc Scavenger Hunt activity, I had several teachers ask if I had created scavenger hunts for any of the other Google tools. Below is the scavenger hunt I designed for Google Slides.
Teachers are welcome to access and use this Google Slide Scavenger Hunt. Just click “File” on the presentation and “Make a copy.” It will automatically save to your Google Drive, then you can edit your version so it works for your students
Hopefully, this serves as a fun introduction to Google Slides for students and provides you with a little insight into your new students!
I invite any teachers who create a modified version for students at different levels to share links to their scavenger hunts in a comment!

Thank you soooo much for sharing this!!
You’re welcome, Anna!
Fun
Thank you for these! Both of these are the perfect tools for those of my students who are new to Google suite as well as a refresher for those that are familiar with the tools!
Thank you for a fun and useful resource! I am going to modify it for Michigan. THANKS!
Jamie could you share your Michigan update? tczerwinski@saintanselmachool.org
Thanks!!
I know this is many years later- but I would love the MI version too- if available.
I do not have an MI version. My apologies, Allison!
Take care.

Awesome! Thank you! Modifying in Oklahoma!
These are such fun activities! Thank you so much for sharing!
I am so grateful for these tools – Thank you for your generosity. I changed “California” related questions to “Rochester, NY” questions – I was surprised as to how few students knew the state bird!

Thank you. I will be using this in Texas
I love your Scavenger Hunts!! I am teaching a “Google Unit” including the many apps that Google has to offer. I wish there was a scavenger hunt for each one! I love your website too.

Thank you for this! I used it for students to learn more about the Byzantines for 7th graders in California.
Do you have one for google sheets?
No, I don’t have one for sheets yet, Christina.
Hi! I loved the Google Docs and Slides ones. Do you happen to have one for Sheets? Drawing? Sites?
I would love to look at them if you do!
Hi Katherine,
I just published my Google Sites scavenger hunt! I have one for Drawing, but it is a work in progress. I hope to share it soon!
Take care.

Caitlin, I can’t seem to get the slides document to make a copy. Can you help?
Beth,
You will need to sign into your Gmail account, click “File” at the top of the slide deck, and select “Make a copy.” Then a copy will automatically save to your Google Drive.
Catlin
Hmmm, I am having a similar issue. I am logged into my Google Account. I get the make a copy window, but it won’t move forward.
Add’l info: I am using Chrome, I do have solid internet access, and like I said I am logged in. But the “Make a Copy” button does not seem to work.
Cathy
I am having the same issue. Did anyone ever get it resolved?
Hi Nicole,
I’m not sure what the issue is. Below is the direct share link.

Be sure you have slides downloaded. I didn’t have the app.
Great idea – what a fun way to learn to use these tools. I even learned a couple things myself! Thanks for sharing!
I teach educators and your scavenger hunts are perfect for adult learners as well as students. Thanks for always being so willing to share!

I really appreciate the effort, my 4th quarter is about to start with a bunch of newbies and this is perfect for them.
Thank you!
Is the link working properly? I wasn’t able to to make a copy once I opened the link.
Hi Ang,
I just checked all of the links and they work for me.
Catlin
Thank you!! A great resource!
Where is the answer sheet?
I don’t have a formal answer sheet, Tyler. You could complete the scavenger hunt and create one.
Catlin
Hi! I tried the link, but I can’t click on it. Would it be possible to get a copy shared with me? It looks wonderful! Thanks!
Hi Caitlin! I am trying to access a copy of the presentation but it is not allowing me to “make a copy”? Any other other ideas on how to access? I absolutely love your resources! Thank you!
Hi Kim,
What about this link?
Catlin
The link to make a copy no longer works. Can you update it, please?
Hi Eileen,
I’ve redone this link several times. I am easily able to make a copy, so I have no idea what the issue is. I have again relinked and I’ve included it below. I hope it works.

Hi Catlin,
Thank you so much for sharing all of your amazing resources. I am unable to make a copy of the Google Slides Scavenger Hunt and was wondering if you could re-share it.
Thank you!
T.C.
Nevermind! I clicked on a link from your comments and found it 🙂

This isn’t working for me. I would love it if someone could share a copy with me please.
I clicked make a copy and nothing happened. It could totally be user error. I just thought I would see if anyone else is having that problem.
Try this, Heather –> https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/11f8aKMRu-grRdSa5NjSPGmMgdgrEURDfVlHUU9UG-5k/copy?usp=sharing
I was interested in the Google Slides Scavenger Hunt but when I click on the link it won’t let me make a copy. The page pops up to do so but when I click on the Make a Copy button it does nothing.
See the comments above where I have provided an alternative link.
Catlin
Thanks for sharing. I had to use your direct link as the “make a copy” button is still not working. I had no trouble at all getting the Docs version.
My school is 1-1 with chromebooks, and this is my first year teaching there. Students have been using the chromebooks, but have only scratched the surface of all the fun/useful tools they now have access to that will display (and expand) their knowledge. My students were not excited about doing digital projects, so I needed something to motivate them. I am using this google slide scavenger hunt, but I added in a final slide that asks the students to make a video presentation using screencastify.
Thank you Catlin for putting in all the time and energy on this scavenger hunt!!!!!!
Great add, Nadine! Glad you were able to use my Google Slide Scavenger Hunt. I have one for Google Docs too if you decide you want to use that.
Take care.
Catlin
Caitlin,
Thank you for sharing both of these activities. They will be a great activity to use with the students helping me to determine their knowledge level.
You’re welcome, Kathy!
Thank-you for sharing this. It is getting harder and harder to find shared items in this era of TEACHERS PAY TEACHERS. I really appreciate it and plan on using it after Christmas break.
You are welcome, Natalie! I’m happy to share what I create with teachers to save them time. We have enough on our plates without trying to create everything from scratch. I wish more teachers shared their resources.
Take care.
Catlin
Thank you so much for sharing your resources. I used the google doc in my classroom today and kids enjoyed working on it. I appreciate for sharing your resources.
Thanks for sharing! It is exactly what I need for my class. Any plans for a Google Sheets scavenger hunt?
I LOVE these!
My students don’t love them (ha ha), but they agree it’s better than listening to me talk for a whole bell!
Keep up the great work! Thanks for sharing!
That’s funny! Each time my students would start a scavenger hunt and hit a bump, they would immediately ask me how to do whatever it was they were struggling with. I just laughed and told them the whole point of a scavenger hunt is to FIGURE IT OUT! Finally, they started using each other, Google, and YouTube to figure stuff out. That is the whole point!
I’m glad you like them 🙂
Catlin
This is the best ever!!! Thank you so much!
I used the Google Slides Scavenger Hunt with my 3rd-5th grade computer students, and it was the perfect project. The admin loves it, the teachers loved it, and we were being accredited and they said they loved the idea as well. This made me look like a wonderful teacher, thank you so much!
Yay! I’m so glad, Jessica!
Thank you!
Love Google Slide Scavenger Hunt! Thank you so much.
You’re welcome!
My students used the Google Docs Scavenger Hunt last year and it was really eye-opening how many of them really don’t know about all of the tools embedded in Docs. I just saw the Slides Scavenger Hunt, and I plan to use both the first week of school. Thanks so much for the great resources!
I had the same experience, Dana. I often assume they know how to navigate technology when in reality they do not. I am thrilled you were able to use it with your students!
Catlin
Thank you so much for these scavenger hunts! They are amazing.
You’re welcome, Melissa!
Thank you for this great activity . . . I am modifying it to have students in the education major so that they will see how a project like this can be used in the classroom.
Hi Catlin,
Thanks so much for creating the scavenger hunts. I am a newbie to Google Suite. I am a Microsoft user and now our school is using Google Classroom. This is going to be so useful for me, the staff, and students. Thank you for helping us learn more about this.
You’re welcome, Mary! I’m so glad you can use it.
Catlin
Caitlin,
Looks like many have modified. Would you mind sending your original to me?
Hi Susie,
If you click the link below and make a copy, it will give you access to the original.

Thank you for creating these useful tools! I am looking everywhere now from home for how to teach the Google suite! These will be a great addition, actually start to what I can use! Thanks again!
You’re welcome, Christine! I’m thrilled you can use them.
Take care.
Catlin
Thank you for your willingness to share. In this era of COVID-19 our school is transitioning to Distance Learning and while my Business Applications class has been using Office 365 in a school lab, having students work from home on whatever device the family has available I decided to transition to the Google Suite due to the fact that most students were somewhat familiar with it.
You’re welcome, Dave! Good luck making this transition. Hopefully, using tools that your students are already familiar with will help them be more successful in working from home.
Take care.
Catlin
Thanks so much for sharing! We’re doing distance education and I’m definitely going to use this next week as my challenge activity. Such a good refresher and also exposes them to new tools as well.
Thank you, for these great tools I work with adult and this was an extremely helpful tool in accessing what they had learned thus far.
These are great! But question…is there a lesson that goes with them? Do you give a basic tutorial first, and then have the kids do the scavenger hunts? Where can I find the lessons? Willing to pay if on TpT of course, just thinking most kids wont know how to do these “hunts” without a little introduction first. Thanks!
Hi Dina,
This is usually an online station in a station rotation. I do not do any basic tutorials to frontload this activity. The goal is for them to work individually or collaboratively (free to use online resources like YouTube videos) to “figure it out.” They definitely don’t know how to do many of these things, but they are not too tough to figure out. If they can work collaboratively, that also creates a support network they can lean on as they work.
Catlin
Thank you for this! I will be modifying it as a get to know you… and google slides for 6th grade in Ohio!!
Wonderful! I’m thrilled you can modify an use it, Frances!
Take care.
Catlin
This is wonderful! Thank you very much. It was great to learn some new skills myself! 🙂
Thank you Caitlan! Do you have the HyperLink Google Docs Scavenger Hunt you refer to in the Google Slides Scavenger Hunt?
Hi Mariko,
Yes, it is in this blog –> https://catlintucker.com/2017/08/google-docs-scavenger-hunt
Take care.
Catlin
Thank you for your generosity in sharing these. They helped my students and ME!
My promise is to pay your kindness forward in some way.
You’re welcome, Stacey! I’m so glad it helped you and your students.
Catlin
Thank you! This is amazing. My students loved it.
Yay! I’m thrilled they enjoyed it, Yalonda!
This was fun,thanks
Glad to hear it, Jessica! 😊
Hi there Catlin,
I cannot make my own copyðŸ˜
Hi Yuliet,
If you are logged into a Gmail account, you should be able to click “File” at the top of the slide deck and select “Make a copy.” However, if you are not logged into a Gmail account, the “Make a copy” will be greyed out because there is no place for your copy to save. I hope that helps!
Catlin
Thank you for this amazing project. Very generous of you to share! I feel like I should buy you dinner…
Best,
Jennifer
You’re welcome, Jennifer! Thank you for the kind note.
Take care.
Catlin
Do you have anything for Forms, Drawings or Sheets?
No, not yet. Sorry, Candace.
Thanks so much for this. I was wondering if you could share the answers with me.
Thanks, Rebekah-teacher of Jr high and High schoolers
Hi Rebekah,
I do not have an answer key. The answers sometimes vary and the purpose of the activity is not to find specific answers but to explore the functionality of Google Slides.
Catlin
Thank you so much!!! I have an evaluation soon. This is wonderful.
You’re welcome, Angela!
