Keynote: Achieve Balance with Blended Learning

The biggest barriers to innovation are a lack of time and energy. Too many teachers are exhausted and disillusioned with this profession because they are doing most of the work. What if we are approaching this job all wrong? Teachers must partner with students to create learning environments that maximize the available technology and encourage students to take a lead role in designing, assessing, and reflecting on their learning. It’s time to reevaluate who does the work in the classroom and leverage technology to make our jobs more manageable.

Workshop: Finding Balance with Blended Learning

This hands-on workshop gives educators who are using blended learning models the opportunity to dive deeper into the strategies presented in Balance with Blended Learning. We will explore metacognitive routines designed to get students thinking about their learning. Participants with learn how to rethink traditional workflows, use video strategically, shift feedback and assessment into the classroom, design and use rubrics, and conduct grade interviews. This workshop is designed to help teachers rethink our workflow, embrace new teaching and learning models that leverage technology, and shift ownership of learning over to students.

Keynote: Power Up Blended Learning

Too often professional learning is treated like an event, not a process. Districts spend money on devices and wifi networks, but they do not invest equally in building a professional learning infrastructure. If technology is going to have a transformative impact on both teaching and learning, professional learning must be woven into the fabric of your campus culture.

“There is an urgent need to empower and support teachers through the implementation of digital tools and blended instructional models. In Power Up Blended Learning, Catlin provides instructional leaders and coaches with the essential roadmap to develop internal structures of support within their schools. The time for teacher transformation is now, and this is the book to lead it!” ~Tiffany

Workshop: The Blended Learning Coaching Cycle

In this hands-on workshop, blended learning coach, and author, Catlin Tucker, will provide an overview of a blended learning coaching cycle designed to support teachers from goal setting to implementation to reflection. She will highlight the value of grouping teachers in professional learning communities that use coaching strategies in combination with an ongoing inquiry and action cycle to continue learning together. If schools are going to meet the rapidly changing needs of their students, it’s crucial that the entire school community has a professional learning strategy that works.

Join blended learning coach and bestselling author, Catlin Tucker, for an exciting day of learning.

Keynote: Teachers as Architects and Coaches

Information is everywhere. Teachers no longer need to be fountains of knowledge. We have the opportunity to reimagine or roles to leverage technology and shift students to the center of learning. I am coordinating a seminar on edtech and we are looking for a few presenters.

Here is the letter I am sending out.

    All the best,
    Daryl Wise

As a leading educator interested in Common Core, I am contacting you about participating as a speaker in a free one-day seminar in the SFO area on Sat, Sept. 14, called Common Core Tech (http://commoncore.io). This seminar will help teachers understand how technology can alleviate the difficulties inherent in teaching to the Common Core. We are expecting about 50-100 teachers and educators attending at the event. We would like to invite you to make a short proposal for a talk on how technology helps teachers handle the challenges of teaching to the Common Core. It could discuss access to aligned resources, use of an LMS, collaboration tools… any use of technology that can mitigate the difficulties of teaching to new content standards.

Last weekend, we organized a similar event where we had over 125 teachers and educators sign up for a day of information that included the Santa Clara County Office of Education and others giving presentations titled:

Technology and the Common Core – Best Fits for Best Learning
Teaching with Video – Just Get Started…
How I Learned to Stop Worrying [About Common Core] and Love the Web
My Flipped, Flopped and Flourishing Classroom
Common Core State Standards: Myths, Challenges and Solutions.

The presentations should be approximately 30-45 minutes in length and as you can see from the presentation titles from the last seminar. Lunch is provided for speakers and attendees. Please note that although OpenEd is sponsoring this event, this is not an OpenEd event per se. We welcome co-sponsors and any other help in putting together the event.

If you are interested, please submit a short proposal by Aug 29 to proposals@commoncore.io.  We will respond back to you by Sept 3 to confirm your participation.

Thank you and all the best,
    Daryl Wise

    Hi Catlin,
I met you last year at CATE in Santa Clara (I was the autograph chair). This year we are planning a small conference in the spring, probably somewhere near Pleasanton, though there are no details yet. The idea is to hold three different strands, two of the three focusing on blended learning. We are hoping Jim Burke will do the third session on Common Core for newbies. There will be two three-hour sessions, one in the morning, lunch will be provided, and one in the afternoon. Our hope is to build membership. I have to admit that I am a total Catlin Tucker junky and try to absorb as much from you as possible. At any rate, dependent on your availability of course, is this something you might be able to help us with? Thanks

  3. Liz Dodds says:

Hi Catlin- I tried to tweet to you about this but was not able to DM- so I don’t know if you saw it?
Anyway, I loved your Blended Learning book- so practical and so insightful.
I would like to invite you to come to our California School Library Association Conference at the SFO Hyatt Feb. 50 8, 2015. It is the centennial of our organization! We would love to have you do a workshop for us if you’re available, on any of the days, 5th through 8th. I especially like the 7 Steps to Successful Online Discussions, but there are many others on your list that our members would enjoy as well.
Please email me and let me know if you’re interested.
    Thanks,
    Liz Dodds

    Hi Catlin,
We would love to have you provide our K-12 Calistoga teachers with one of your incredible workshops. We have an upcoming PD day on March 16…is there any possibility you would be available for part of that day? Your workshop at the recent Learning and the Brain Conference in San Francisco was inspiring!!!
Please email me and let me know if you’re interested and if you’re available.
    Many thanks,
    Jane Bunting

Dear Catlin, first of all thank you so much. I have just read an article of yours for the first time in my life and I am so keen to read some more. I would have a technical question though. Have you got a newsletter? I have seen that you can be followed on twitter but I am not a user. Is there any other way to follow your blog and be notified if new content, article is available.

    Thank you yo much.
    Dori

    • Hi Dora!

I am working on adding a plugin that will allow people to request email updates when new content is posted. I had an outdated plugin, and I am trying to find the best replacement. I should have an email sign up option live by the end of this week.

      Take care.
      Catlin

    Hello Catlin!
Here in the Washington, DC area you have a group of teachers who would love to take your course asap (and are hoping for the group discount!) 🙂
I’ve sent a request through the teachable site – but I’m not sure you’re getting them, as the site says I’ll hear from “Dr. Jody Carrington’s group.”
Weird? But still hoping to hear from your people about a group license for the course!!!
Thanks for investing your time and energy in a way that is so helpful to so many of us.
    Kristin
